Mare Saddle Bag by Frida Åberg

The Mare Saddle Bag. There is something ancient about this pattern. The way the motifs move across the surface, leaves curling at the edges, seed pods splitting open, small flowers suspended mid-bloom, feels like a textile tradition carried forward into something entirely new.

This Saddle Bag is an original artwork by Swedish designer Frida Åberg. Against a rich, saturated cobalt blue, flowing white forms cover every surface of the bag in an intricate, almost folkloric pattern. Botanical shapes, abstract figures and delicate details weave into one another with a confidence and freedom that rewards a long, unhurried look. The contrast between the deep blue ground and the pale white motifs is bold and immediate, yet the individual details are tender and precise.

It is the kind of bag that tells a story. You just have to look closely enough to read it.

Construction & Detail

Crafted from 100% premium wet-felted natural wool, the bag has a rounded, sculptural silhouette that holds its shape beautifully whether full or empty. The front flap curves gently over the body of the bag and closes with a discreet hidden magnetic button on the inside, keeping the exterior clean and uninterrupted.

A colour-matched blue tassel hangs from the side of the bag, a finishing detail as considered as everything else about this piece.

The accompanying strap is made from the same 100% wet-felted wool as the bag itself, in a matching cobalt blue, ensuring a completely seamless look. It is fully adjustable up to 120 cm and attaches via high-quality metal clasps, making it easy to remove should you prefer to carry the bag by hand. For those who prefer leather, a full-grain leather strap in a matching colour is available separately in our store.

A note on craft

Each bag takes several days to complete. The surface pattern is built entirely within the felting process itself, no printing, no appliqué, just wool, water, pressure and skill. Every motif is shaped by hand, which means no two bags will ever look quite the same.

Variations in tone, texture and motif detail are natural and expected, the unmistakable mark of something made entirely by hand.
